End of Treatment Packs
It's Good 2 Give help young cancer patients and their families in many ways. Here you can see some of the practical support we offer:
Patient Packs
Part of what we do at It’s Good 2 Give is helping young cancer patients and their families while they are in hospital.
We help them in practical ways to make their days a bit more manageable.
As part of this, we provide packs for babies, toddlers, children, teenagers and adults which include the essentials that anyone would need for overnight stays that they don’t have the time or headspace to organise for themselves.
These packs include all the little things we have to hand at home all the time and are very much part of our lives.
• Baby wipes
• Teething rings
• Dummies
• Flannels
• Sponges
• Bibs
• Mini fans and batteries
• Toothbrushes and toothpaste
• Notepad and pens
• Razors
• Lip balm
• Shampoo
• Tissues
• Moisturisers
For little ones we provide:
"It may seem like such a small gesture but I can’t tell you how well received and invaluable these are"
"It’s Good 2 Give really have covered all angles and we all much appreciate everything they do"
"As a nurse it’s a lovely token to be able to offer these families at a very difficult time"
Fiona, a nurse from The Royal Hospital for Children and Young People Edinburgh knows the difference these packs can make:
Snack Trolley
We provide a variety of snacks and juice for the young cancer patients and their parents.
There are lots of different tastes and textures which may help young cancer patients eat more, they especially love strong flavoured crisps.
During COVID19, we still wanted young cancer patients to 'ring the bell' to mark the end of their treatment.
As they weren't allowed to share the main end of treatment bell, individual bells were the answer! A t-shirt and card along with the bell are gifted to Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen Children's hospitals.
End of Treatment Packs
Our original bells had stickers placed on them by our charity chair and founders Lynne and Ian McNicoll.
We now have multi coloured bells which are playful and creative and perfect to hand out to children which have finished treatment. Each one with the IG2G logo on it.
Ripple Retreat
The Ripple Retreat is a place for families of young cancer patients in Scotland, where you can unwind during the most challenging of times, at home in our soothing natural surroundings.
This oasis by the water offers families a calm, caring environment to escape the pressures they find themselves facing. It provides a chance to nurture both physical and mental well-being in a uniquely beautiful natural retreat away from the everyday realities of living with cancer.
Psychologists
We all wish Joanna was still here with us but we are proud to have taken forward an idea, a request, of hers.
We are funding two psychologist posts in NHS Lothian to support young cancer patients.
The total funding is £420,000 and is to fund those posts for five years.
